Italy – an ancient vinous culture and a land of many, many wine styles, regions, rules and regulations. Our love affair with all things Italian continues and indeed at least one in every 10 bottles purchased in the UK off trade is from this beautiful country.
Our selection of Italian wines is based on a similar philosophy to that of the Slow Food movement, which devotes itself to the promotion of fresh products and fine traditional food. Our Chiantis are only from the hillier Classico region and are made in the time honoured way with traditional chestnut barrels and indigenous grapes such as Alicante Bouschet, Colorino, Canaiolo and Malvasia Nera all of which are used in a salt and pepper kind of way – to add spice, depth and complexity to the ever hardy Sangiovese. There is never a rush to release these wines and the plethora of international awards that Villa Trasqua have received over recent years is testament to their skill, understanding and patience.
Also hand wrought are our two Amarones, Nicola Fabiano Amarone della Valpolicella Classico and Fabiano “I Fondatori” Amarone della Valpolicella Classico. These magnificent wines come from the hilly vineyards of Valpolicella Classico, the just a few kilometres North West of historic city of Verona. But there is a lighter, stylish and very fashionable side to the Italians which prevents us from wallowing in the vast sea of sensorial pleasures that is Italy. The success of our Fabiano Prosecco Castello 4357 has spawned a new sparkling rose, Prosecco Rosato Castello 4357, a wine that demonstrates all the stylish pleasures of Italian life.
