Austria is a country which is steeped in culture and history with evidence of grape growing dating back 4,000 years. Viticulture thrived under the Romans and Grüner Veltliner has been grown around the Danube since Roman times.
Today Austria only has a small production and some 73% of wines produced are consumed domestically. It is rapidly gaining a reputation for making first class dry white wines from Grüner Veltliner and Riesling.
